Wiring a Single Pole Light Switch

Visit http://www.askthehardwareguy.com for more tips.
Wiring a single pole light switch is an easy do it yourself project. Shut off the electric to the circuit that you are working on.
A single pole switch is used when one switch operates a light. The single pole switch will have 2 screw terminals and a ground screw.
The switch will be marked with on and off on the lever.
A switch is just a break in the hot, so you can connect the wires to either screw terminal.

Wiring a Pull Chain

Visit http://www.askthehardwareguy.com for more tips.
Wiring a pull chain light is an easy do it yourself project. You will have 2 screw terminals on the pull chain light. The hot wire will be connected to the brass screw and the neutral wire will be connected to the silver screw.
Turn off the electric to the pull chain light and check the wires with an electrical tester.

Wiring a Three Way Switch

Visit http://www.askthehardwareguy.com for more tips.
If you have a light that is controlled by 2 wall switches, you have a pair of 3 way switches.
Turn off the electric to any circuit that you are working on.
You will have 3 screw terminals plus a ground on a 3 way switch. You will have 1 dark colored screw and 2 light colored screws. Always mark the wire going to the dark colored screw on the old 3 way switch. This is the wire you will connect to the dark colored screw on the new 3 way switch.
When you are connecting the wires to the new 3 way switch, have about 3/4 of an inch of insulation stripped off the wire. Create a hook and wrap it clockwise. Connect the wire that went to the dark wire on the old switch to the dark wire on the new switch. The other 2 wires can be attached to either of the light colored screws.
If you have a ground wire, connect it to the green screw.

If you are using a light color top coat you will want a light grey. As you get darker with your top coat, you will want a slightly darker shade of grey.
Grey primer will help blend in with the color of your paint and also give it a much brighter appearance.

Dishwasher Leak

Visit http://www.askthehardwareguy.com for more tips.
If your dishwasher is leaking from the door, it is usually the door catch, the hinges or the gasket around the door.
In most cases, it is the gasket for the door. Over time the gasket can crack or become damaged. It is very easy for most dishwashers to pull out the old gasket and replace it with a new one. Some gaskets will be on the door and some will be on the unit. Many just fit into a slot, or they can be slid in a track.
If you are having a hard time installing the new gasket, just soak it in some soapy water to lubricate it.
This is usually a very easy do it yourself project.
If the door catch or hinges are loose, you just need to tighten the screws.
