Wiring a Three Way Switch

Visit http://www.askthehardwareguy.com for more tips.
If you have a light that is controlled by 2 wall switches, you have a pair of 3 way switches.
Turn off the electric to any circuit that you are working on.
You will have 3 screw terminals plus a ground on a 3 way switch. You will have 1 dark colored screw and 2 light colored screws. Always mark the wire going to the dark colored screw on the old 3 way switch. This is the wire you will connect to the dark colored screw on the new 3 way switch.
When you are connecting the wires to the new 3 way switch, have about 3/4 of an inch of insulation stripped off the wire. Create a hook and wrap it clockwise. Connect the wire that went to the dark wire on the old switch to the dark wire on the new switch. The other 2 wires can be attached to either of the light colored screws.
If you have a ground wire, connect it to the green screw.
